The Virtual Dolls' House Museum

The Virtual Dolls' House Museum

Welcome, dear friends of dolls' houses. This virtual museum is devoted entirely to the small worlds: antique dolls' houses, doll rooms and miniature kitchens, finely crafted shops and quiet miniature gardens. It exists to make a curated collection freely accessible online — to collectors, to friends of the miniature, and to anyone who has not yet forgotten how to marvel.

What you will find here

At its heart the collection holds around fifty different dolls' houses of all epochs, each with complete furnishings, together with about twenty old doll rooms and miniature kitchens and a companion collection of some one hundred and fifty antique dolls. The emphasis lies firmly on the dolls' houses, and in particular on houses from 1850 to 1940 — the great age of domestic miniature — with a few newer houses in the nostalgic style carrying the tradition forward.

A mirror of its time

A dolls' house is far more than a toy. It is a mirror of its age at the smallest scale: a record of how people once lived, cooked and kept house. The style of each house reflects the architectural spirit of its time, while the furniture speaks of the social standing and taste of a whole generation. To walk through these rooms is to travel gently through the domestic history of the last two centuries.
